MY STORY

Hello, I’m Aik Hooi.

As a pianist, I’ve always sought a deeper connection between mind and body, a way to move, play, and live with more ease. At 22, an injury left me unable to move my left arm, affecting my piano studies. It was a difficult time, but it led me to a new path.

In 2011, after moving to New York City, I discovered the Alexander Technique. I realized it wasn’t just what I was doing, but how I was doing it that mattered. Learning to release unnecessary tension brought freedom, fluidity, and balance back into my playing and into my life.

Training and Experience

I am a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) with over 1,600 hours of training at The American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT) in New York City.
I specialize in working with performers, offering private sessions and workshops at institutions including Columbia University, NYU Tisch, The New School, and internationally across Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand. I currently teach piano and the Alexander Technique in New York City.

My Philosophy

Each person holds the natural ability to move with ease, balance, and grace.
Through our work together, you’ll rediscover that freedom — both in your art and in your daily life. I invite you to take the first step and reconnect with the ease that is already yours.
